Goldfish Tropical Fish same Tank

Mixing gold fish with tropical fish?

NO! Goldfish should NEVER be kept in the same tank as tropical fish. Why? Take your pick:

1) The goldfish's metabolic rate will increase, meaning the fish will die sooner than it should.

2) Goldfish are large waste machines that are ideally suited to ponds.

3) Tropical water cannot dissolve as much oxygen as cooler water, so the fish will have to breathe faster to compensate for the lack of oxygen, which again, will shorten its lifespan.

4) Many tropical fish are small enough to fit into the mouth of the goldfish (by the time it's fully grown), which means they'll be considered as fair game by the time the goldfish is big enough.

I do apologize

I was just trying to help someone with their fish. I have been jumped on twice in here today and I don't understand it. I am an aquatic vet tech and I do KNOW my goldfish and tropical fish. I help treat them everyday. Just because someone's fish lives for 8 years does not mean that it is living in healthy water. I have goldfish that are 8 inches in length and 16 years old. They get very big and need a lot of room. I was just trying to help.
