Tropical Fish Tanks and Stands

A fish tank filled with healthy and happy fish can provide years of restful, beautiful pleasure--from one spot from which it never, ever moves. In short, trying to move a full fish tank is a recipe for a hernia. The popular 55 gallon tank, once filled with water, weighs nearly 500 pounds by itself. Therefore, make sure that the spot you choose for your fish tank meets your needs for both aesthetics and practicality. It must be placed where the floor is strong. It must also be placed where it's out of direct sunlight. It's important that fish tanks are located where there is room for you to get in and around it for maintenance, and it must be placed near an electrical outlet. Next there's the size issue. A 55 gallon tank, as mentioned before, is heavy. But, because of its size, water conditions change very slowly within it. This translates into less maintenance on your part in the long run. Having decided how big a tank you want, what kind should you buy? All-in-ones include the tank, the cabinet, the stand, a light, and canopy. This makes set up much easier and faster. However, all-in-one units are wider, taller, and therefore require much more room.A decision regarding materials is next: glass versus acrylic. Glass is less expensive and less prone to scratching, which are two big bonuses. However, it is heavier. Acrylic is more expensive and much more lightweight; however, it is prone to scratching. If floor strength is not an issue, then this decision can be made based on personal preference. Whether you opt for glass or acrylic, for all-in-one or separate components, the basic 'shopping list' will include the fish tank, a stand, air pumps, and an under-gravel filter, a hood, a heater, a thermometer, chemicals to remove toxic chemicals from the water, and fish food. To make it attractive, you'll want gravel, plants, decorations, and lighting. Setting up a fish tank is not an easy job, nor is it inexpensive. However, the effort and expense is considered by most to be well worth it.

Turtles will it the fishes

So you'll have to pick whether you want a fish tank or a turtle tank.
Turtles are messy as hell and most will outgrow a 60 gallon tank.
A freshwater 60 gallon tank is fairly easy to care for, but will be pricey to set up. You should look at some fish and see what type you like: cichlids, tropical community, or goldfish-types.
You'll have to invest in a quality filter system and be willing to check your water quality on a weekly basis while you first set the tank up, then a couple times a month to maintain it.

New turtles!

I just got 2 new turtles, they are yellow eared/bellied sliders! They are so cute:) My friend runs a tropical fish store and knows I am a teacher, so I can get the littler ones. I will probably be taking them into my classroom so my kids can name them.
They fit right in with my 3 RES, 1 MD painted, and 1 snapping turtle. They are in their own little tank for now so they don't have to fight for food.
